We recently brought home my mother-in-law's cedar chest. Though my husband had the key, he put it inside the chest, unlocked, for the ride home in our car from Nashville. When he got it put in the place we wanted it, he discovered it had locked itself, somehow, on the ride home.

My work since Gold Earrings is a intergenerational series called Faith in the Crucible of American History.
The first book is called Colonial Dream. Colin, Ben, and Amanda arrive in the colonies; Colin as a British soldier just as the Revolution begins. How can he return to his trade as a blacksmith and marry Amanda to create their dream life when he is fighting against the people he longs to be? How can he fight against Amanda's twin (and his best friend)?
The second book is called Transforming Bitterness into Joy. Blacksmith Colin and Amanda's son Michael (born during the Battle of Bunker Hill) must raise his siblings and holds bitterness in his heart for all the life he could have had without all this responsibility. Susannah, the pastor's daughter, helps him find renewed joy and love. The War of 1812 intrudes in their relationship.
The third book A Time to Choose is set during the Civil War. Andrew is the grandson of Michael and Susannah. As a US soldier, he is a Virginian who must choose alliances as war begins. His sweetheart is an abolitionist journalist.
Planning a fourth book called Created to Create. Lincoln is the son of Michael and Susannah. He wants to leave the family trade, blacksmithing, and become an inventor.
