Take time off. It is quite alright to take a break.
Go back often to read what you've written to keep the story fresh in your mind. You will sometimes be inspired when you least expect it. Always keep a notepad with you or even make verbal notes into your phone. Don't let those inspired moments get away from you.
You may even be inspired by a dream. Don't go back to sleep until you write down the thought.

I must confess, I am not a reader, however, I would encourage you to read as much as you can in your genre. Also read poetry, this will help your prose.
If you have a story to tell, then tell it. Never sleep on an idea, write it down right away.
Write every day if you can or when you can.
Make an outline. Be ambitious. You may always amend the outline later.

I am currently working on the two sequels to H.I.V.E. I bounce back and forth between the two since I don't write the chapters in chronological order. I may write the epilogue first and then a random chapter in the middle of the book.
I have a story outline in my head then will either type or hand write a scene as I am inspired.
The first sequel to H.I.V.E. will be 'The Return'. A lot more adventure and action in this next book. H.I.V.E. dedicated a lot of time to character development. With that now taken care of, the characters are now free to do science fictiony fun stuff. Fictiony not a real word...I know.

I love science fiction and telling a story. I'm a day dreamer so I imagine scenes my characters are in and how they would react to challenges.

While commuting to work and stuck in rush hour traffic, I thought to myself, it would be nice if there were a technology to allow me to fly over this mess.
