I literally have hundreds of ideas for stories in my head. Many will be tossed to the side as soon as I start to write it down and realize it sucks! Others, however, show more promise. Everyone has ideas for a story - it could be a short story or a full length novel.
Visit my website at deathlyadventures.com. On the SHORTS tab, I'm going to be posting short stories from time to time. My challenge to readers is to either tell me how my story could be improved or to write one of their own.

Step back from the process. Read a book, watch a movie, go for a walk, visit with friends. Every action you take presents you with opportunities to create ideas. If you simply sit in a chair staring at your monitor, new ideas are less likely to find their way through your stress. So, relax, and give great ideas a chance to come to you.

I've been an avid reader forever! Looking on a store bookshelf or searching the web and finding MY BOOK was exhilarating! Being able to pull an idea out of my head, put it into written form, and have other people enjoy it is simply amazing!

Just write. Don't worry about details and plot development and characters and dialogue - all these will develop as your writing muscle (the brain) begins to make connections you never thought of.
Then, get people to you trust to beta your manuscript to find all the holes you will have left - missing scenes, unexplained plot twists, unclear descriptions of people and places, etc. These are mistakes you might miss because, in your head, they aren't missing at all.

Along with my website, deathlyadventures.com, I'm currently having some beta readers going through my next novel, Their Exasperating Dance with Death. It's a stand alone story with entirely new characters, set in the South Pacific islands. In keeping with my theme of Deathly Adventures, the characters will face tsunamis, crocodiles, eruptions, shipwreck and an impossible monster from their worst nightmares.

The rough story was in my head for several years but I was busy with work and family so never had the time to sit down and write. I wanted to write something that most people could relate to - so I created some characters who could be your next door neighbours (or you). For the story itself, I had some ideas for the start and end - what happens between the two grew organically as I wrote. It simply came from my imagination.
