Most of the time, I wake up, eat breakfast, and set the timer for 20 minutes. It's as much a ritual that requires discipline as it is a bolt of inspiration -- though when I'm in the zone, words come quickly and easily. When I'm not in the zone, writing feels like a struggle, but it's still one of my favorite activities on the planet.
