Daniel Loubier Hi Steve,
Thanks so much for the fantastic job you did with my book! I enjoyed your narration very much. And I'm glad you enjoyed the book as well. I wish I had some kind of "silver bullet" as to driving traffic to the book, but unfortunately I don't. I try to do signings and horror conventions for exposure. I also try to plug the hell out of it on social media. Other than that, I have a family and a full time job so promotion is challenging. Got any ideas?
Daniel Loubier Not very well. :) I've learned to just let it happen. I can't force my way through writer's block. I've tried, but have only been unsuccessful. I usually have to wait until just the perfect bit of inspiration comes along and then, you got it...magic. I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone, though. Some writer friends use free writing as a means of conquering block. Even if free writing takes them in the wrong direction, it helps in guiding them down the right path.
Daniel Loubier The sense of accomplishment. For me, the process of writing is a magical journey that I create for myself--often without even knowing the destination! Sometimes when I write an ending, it is completely different than the ending I originally had in mind. The best thing about writing is not knowing where my characters will take me next. It's exhilarating.
Daniel Loubier Tell the story first, then edit. So many aspiring writer friends of mine tell me they've been working on the first chapter of their book for months. Then I ask them, "Why?" You have to get it all out first. Don't write/edit/write/edit...you'll never finish the story. Again, tell the story first, then edit. Only after you have finished will you be able to determine HOW to best tell your story.
Daniel Loubier I am working on my first children's book with an illustrator. I am also working on sequels to both Dead Summit and Those Among Us. I work a full-time job for an IT company so trying to find time to write is challenging. Therefore, it will be a while before either sequel goes to print.
Daniel Loubier After a recent book signing, I received a number of positive emails from people who purchased my books telling me how much they enjoyed them. That kind of feedback is truly inspiring and it drives me to write more and be better at what I do. However, I find inspiration just about anywhere. For example, I saw a video the other day of some abandoned neighborhood in western Massachusetts. Boom: book idea! I was once prank-called by some kid trying to get a rise out of me. He started insulting me and I was truly upset until I realized it was a prank. Then I thought, what if some crazy lunatic got a prank call from someone and then decided to stalk that person? Book idea!
Daniel Loubier My most recent book, Those Among Us, is a work of fiction first, but it is inspired by and based on a number of real-life events experienced by a family very close to me. I used their story and their experiences as a basis for my book.
