Ask the Author: Feather Stone, F. Stone
“When does a book get chosen for a movie? There are so many amazing novels, but so many boring movies. Maybe readers should be consulted on what should be the next movie. What do you think?”

Yes, thank you, David, I did make the trailer myself but with feedback from others. The production of Forbidden's book trailer took a lot of patience and perseverance. I had a specific sound in my head for the music. It took several months of hunting but finally found exactly what I was looking for; Igge Scoce's sound tracks are amazing. I made several drafts of images and captions; and sought feedback from my beta groups. I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. :)

Brilliant writer? Well, thanks to my instructors, my author friends, and my patient editor, my writing reaches a level of quality that I'm proud of. I lost track of the hours I spent writing Forbidden. My first book, The Guardian's Wildchild, took ten years. Forbidden was much faster - only five years, LOL. My goal is to write a novel that the reader will want to read again and again. Take them to a place they never knew could exist except between the pages of my novel. The characters must be dynamic, fun, complex, and shocking. The plot must have surprising twists. The ending - unexpected. Thanks, Pauline.

Yes, and double yes! I love going to movies - or used to when it was worth the parking fee and ticket & popcorn. The last movie I saw in the theatre that had me riveted to my seat was War Horse. Before that, hmm, it was probably more than a year. Some other movies probably were worth seeing, but, if I can wait to see them on my itsy tv screen, I'll pass. Other movies need to be seen on the big screen, even IMAX, to really appreciate the scenes and action. Like Avatar. Awesome. Wish I wrote Avatar. Perhaps a movie producer will pick up my novel, Forbidden.

I rarely have writer's block. There are days when I'm tired or mentally preoccupied with life's responsibilities. It's difficult to be creative when your body and mind are not focused on the task of writing. On those days I read over previous chapters and edit, edit, edit.

The rewards of being a writer are more personal than in the area of monetary gain or having a fan club. The process of creating something that never existed before is almost spiritual. When I sit down to write, I enter a world that leads me beyond what I thought possible. I ask, "What if...." and then the movie begins. I don't know where I'm heading sometimes. I follow on faith and silence my ego. The journey is incredible.

I've critiqued manuscripts for aspiring authors who thought they could just sit down at the keyboard and write a best seller. Some don't even read books. To tell a story that readers will enjoy, an author needs to understand the craft of storytelling. Take some writing courses. Join a writing group. And know that it takes months, more often years, to write a story that a publisher will even look at. If you follow the 'rules' of telling a story, and your heart, and don't give up, you can be on the best seller list.

I'm currently polishing my second novel, Forbidden. I'm beyond excited about this story. For a year I've provided snippets to followers who are begging to receive a copy when it is finally released. Here is a draft synopsis:
Within hours of arrival in the Middle East city of Samarra, Eliza Leigh MacKay and fifteen Americans are plunged into a desperate struggle for survival. Eliza, alone, survives the massacre. A cover-up ensues.
Police captain Hashim Sharif, a devout Muslim, is forced to become the keeper of the impetuous MacKay woman. When she escapes and is cornered by madmen, Sharif discovers she is no shrinking violet and awakens to his deep affection for her.
Sharif and Eliza are immersed into the shadowy world of espionage, corruption, murder, and kidnapping. From shabby back alleys, a crumbling mosque, mountain caves, to the splendor of the marble columns in the federal building, Captain Sharif hunts for the American’s killers.
As Captain Sharif’s investigation progresses, he and Eliza become the hunted. Compelled to trust each other, they hold back feelings they’ve considered forbidden. When Sharif discovers who was behind the massacre, it hits him with deadly force - as if shot by his own AK47.
Feather Stone takes you on a richly textured epic adventure through stunning landscape and into the minds of desperate men. A strong cast of characters will grab and hurl you into a plot full of treachery, and passion that refuses to be silenced.

Inspired? It's more like an obsession. I must write or the disembodied narrator on my shoulder will not give me peace. LOL

I have experienced the paranormal since childhood, mostly simple things like out of body events. There have been incredible events like the time I was drowning in a lake. I'd given up trying to keep my head above water. As I sank to the bottom of the lake, my guide clearly said, "If you stand, you can breathe." I did and, lo and behold, I'm here telling the story. The Guardian's Wildchild, my first novel began after such an experience.
