Bill Blume Analiese loved how big Tina's house was. Tina still didn't know where she had hidden all her knives or the bodies.
Bill Blume So many books I want to read, but God only knows if I'll get to read them. Here's the top contenders (in no particular order):

Thrawn by Timothy Zahn
D'Arc by Robert Repino
Want by Cindy Pon
Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia
Patchwork by Karsten Knight (Won this in a GR giveaway)
Cold Summer by Gwen Cole
Bill Blume Had to think on this one a lot, but I have to go with Lucius Vorenus and TItus Pullo from the TV series "Rome." Sure, they aren't a romantic couple, but it's near impossible to imagine one of these guys without immediately thinking of the other. Not only were they written brilliantly to explore how the rise and fall of Caesar affected the common man, but the way these two played off of each other was just a joy to watch. Ray Stevenson and Kevin McKidd played their parts so well that watching them in any other role, no matter how well played, makes you ache to see the two of them together again walking through the Aventine.

Bill Blume Ashley, thanks so much! Really glad you've enjoyed the books so far. I do want to tell much more with Gidion and that back story. Jun (aka Blood) is among those side characters I'd love to explore more, maybe even a novella to detail how she became a vampire and found her unique profession (although, the short story with her in The Deadlands does reveal a bit of that). Certainly, Gidion's Dad offers a lot of rich story to explore, too. As for Gidion, he certainly can't give up the hunt. It's too deep a part of who he is to stop, and there are other hunters out there I'd love to introduce into the larger story.

The sad truth, though, is that there are no immediate plans for more "Gidion Keep, Vampire Hunter" books. I won't abandon Gidion completely, but unfortunately, my publisher needs to see more interest from readers before they'll give the green light for a third book. So, please push the word-of-mouth promotion. I can't thank my readers enough for the interest they've shown. For now, I am working on some other young adult novels that I'll be shopping around soon, and one of those projects could very easily see Gidion make an appearance if it also becomes a series.

Thanks for reading, Ashley! And happy hunting!
Bill Blume I've recently finished a manuscript for a young adult, epic fantasy re-imagining of The Red Badge of Courage. I'm getting that into the hands of my beta readers. While they read that, I'm going to start writing the third book in my Gidion Keep, Vampire Hunter series.
Bill Blume I don't. I plant my ass in a chair, open the manuscript on my laptop, and tell that lousy bastard to get lost. Writer's block usually comes from when I've taken a wrong turn in a story, but the worst thing I can do at that point is to stop writing. Usually, the better option is to force the matter.

Bill Blume I'm blessed with a wife who has always encouraged me as a writer, and I'm grateful for that and the added support from our children. In order to get something written, I've made a lot of selfish choices to make time for myself to go write when others might use that time to be with their family. The first time my wife and kids attended a book release of mine (which was for Gidion's Hunt), I found myself overcome with an unexpected relief that they could finally see what I'd been working towards all this time, that it was something real and attainable. Being able to have that moment, something I didn't even know I was working towards, will probably always be the best thing for me about being a writer.
Bill Blume Keep your ass in the chair, and don't stop writing. Read great writers (this doesn't necessarily mean "The Classics") and see how they make a story work. You need to read diversely in every respect; this is harder than it sounds. Beyond that, find other writers who can provide helpful feedback, and leave your ego out of it (I struggled with this for a very long time). With that last point in mind, I'm going to shamelessly plug James River Writers. Their annual conference provided me with a wonderful place to meet writers from across nation (and within my community) and learn from their experiences. www.jamesriverwriters.org
Bill Blume I don't wait to get inspired. Finding your Muse is no different than finding someone to love and love you back. You can't wait for the Muse to inspire you. She deserves a relationship where you set time aside to write. When you make time for the Muse, she will make time for you.
Bill Blume A lot of the motivation behind Gidion's Blood came from the idea of showing the price of success for a vampire hunter. In the first book, Gidion is a few months into his "career," and so he hasn't done enough to become overconfident and thus fall prey to a lot of mistakes. He's careful. By the time of the second book, he's developing a taste for the kill that can lead to sloppiness. His unwillingness to back down from the hunt and lay low also draws unwanted attention. This prompts the vampires to hire a professional to exterminate Gidion. I loved giving my hero a foe who isn't just a worthy challenge but who in some ways is better than him in every aspect.
