The idea for the book I'm working on right now came from a desire to hear more women's voices in the Bible. The format and style were inspired by Oscar Wilde's Salome, a literary play about the beheading of John the Baptist, Herod's daughter Salome, and Herodias, Herod's wife. I studied it for a project in graduate school, and it has never left me. The language is gorgeous and rich; he seems to have created something that feels very fresh and original.
