Jay Amari Hey. Looks like we have succeeded despite the pandemic. Working from home is actually worth it.
Jay Amari My best approach when I hit a block is to stop pushing for an answer, solution, idea, theme, or any word that I think makes a start for a narrative, and just wallow in different sources like books, magazines, plays, poems, essays, news reportage and cat videos on YouTube to absorb anything different from the ideas in my own mind that I am pursuing.
Most of the time this brings about self reflection and allows me to understand my motives for writing whatever it is I am trying to write.
This backing-away also allows me to learn a great deal from other sources like science, and psychology which fuels my motivation.

My own particular situation really helped open many doors to venues where I could write dialogue for actors, and ultimately helped me listen more clearly to how people communicated with words to each other.

Script writing is possibly the most naked way of finding your voice. You aren’t allowed to spend much time alone I your writing closet mulling over words. If you want to have your script performed in front of an audience you have to produce words and then sit back and allow actors to interpret them in performance. This can be frustrating at times, but ultimately educational. Each actor will mouth your words differently no matter how clearly you write out the intention.

The collaborative development of your scripts will serve you as writer and will serve actors and directors too because all involved will learn from the process of reading or performing your play.

So if you are writing stage plays find some actors to read your stuff, and get involved in a theatre that might produce your stuff. It’s a thrill better than any drug out there.
