When I was young, a younger girl I knew was murdered by people who were supposed to be babysitting her. Who killed her is not a mystery, but I never understood why they did it. It never made sense. I’ve had an itch to write a fictionalized account of this for a long time and I’m still feeling my way through how I’d do it, but it could definitely be the plot to a book.

My summer reading list is all over the place! I have memoirs, Christiab non-fiction, popular fiction, and romance on my list. On my list currently: Bossypants by Tina Fey; A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard, Hone Girl by Gillian Flynn; The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold; Breaking Busy by Alli Worthington; The Best Yes and Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst; Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman; Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg; On Writing Memoir by Mary Karr; and I'm Judging You by Luvvie's Ajayi. I also plan to finish The Shining by Stephen King and Curious Faith by Logan Wolfram.

I am currently working on an inspirational romance set at Christmas time, and my first bible study. I tend to work on multiple things at a time. I'm trying to alternate a fiction and a nonfiction work to keep things simple. I'm also outlining another possible project for later in the year.

I have so many favorite fictional couples--in movies, tv shows, and books, but ever since I was a little girl, one couple has been my absolute favorite. That couple? Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe. I could identify with their relationship because I was a nine year old with a crush on a boy who picked on me like Gilbert did Anne. I hoped it was because he liked me, but the world may never know, lol. The evolution of their relationship was sweet to watch and made me fall in love with reading along while people fall in love. It started my love affair with romantic books, even though the Anne of Green Gables books were so much more than romance.

Let the writing come first. Don't get caught up in who's going to publish it, what's hot in the market right now, building an author platform, or how you're going to market the book you haven't written yet. Get the words on the page and work on crafting them into the best story possible.
Once you have a story and know what you want to do with it, however, don't be impulsive and put it out there without doing your research. Whether that's researching an agent, publishers, editors, or self-publishing options, make sure you are well informed and have the information to make the best decisions for your work.

This is going to sound a little weird, but my surefire ways for dealing with writer's block are to clean my house (particularly the kitchen) or to take a shower. I run through ideas or issues in my writing while my body is doing something repetitive and for some reason the ideas just flow.

I actually came up with the title Altered before the Altar while sitting on the toilet one morning. The life of a writer is very strange, LOL.

I was tired of being asked about when I was going to get married. I was also tired of wondering when I was going to get married. There was a lot of frustration and confusion around the subject for me, and I wanted some concrete answers about marriage God's way. What's so great about it? How can a woman prepare herself to be a wife without being one of THOSE women who chased men that didn't even want to be caught? What did God have to say about the process of finding someone you might want to marry?
The process began with interviews of ministers, psychologists, and long married couples as an effort to get clarity on the subject for myself and evolved into Altered before the Altar.
