I don't really suffer from writer's block. Some writers seem to think that writing is about getting words onto a page every second - "1000 words a day!" and all that. But a lot of my writing happens when I'm doing other things - on the bus, in the car, out walking. I'm always making notes or thinking through the next bit. But I do stumble sometimes, and wrote a blog about how I get through those moments: http://lauraquigley.weebly.com/blog/m...

There's joy in seeing your work in print (or online) and getting feedback from others. Though the real reason I became a writer in the first place is because I had kids and there was nothing else I could do that fitted around my family and we desperately needed money. The money hasn't quite worked out for us yet, but it seems I now can't stop writing! The job is keeping me going through the rough times.

Get a life, live a life - many new writers sit at the laptop and force the material. But if you are out there living it, then the material comes to you. Get involved, find your passions, find other people's passions, write those passions. Write with passion - it's the energy that will get you through it all, and trust me, you'll need all the energy you can get.

Book 2 of the series: Spirit and the Shadow Stallion. Megan and Josh meet Alexander the Great, so that's fun. And loads of other projects are ongoing - ghost stories from the First World War, more dark tales of Plymouth, another book series set in the 17th century, a short story for a competition. Never just one thing at a time.

I read a lot - all kinds of things, I read everything and anything. And I 'talk' to a lot of people online. True stories are a great inspiration. Real things that happened to me, moved me, thrilled me - they help a great deal. And then when the characters are being themselves and telling me what to write, well, that's just makes it so much easier!

When Forelock Books emailed me and asked if I'd write a new series for them, my first thought was "time travelling horsebox, really, are you sure about this?" and yes, it is daft, but daft in an amazing, fun and exciting way. I wrote a few pages for them and they were thrilled, so I just kept writing and the ideas just never stopped. Most fun I've ever had writing anything.
