Amber Lea Starfire Read and write -- a LOT. Read everything you can get your hands on. And when you read, think about why the author made the choices he or she made, what works for you and what doesn't. And write about everything. Keep a journal to write your thoughts down, keep track of daily events, and jot notes. Practice, practice, practice. You will eventually develop your own, unique voice as well as confidence in your work.
Amber Lea Starfire I haven't really experienced writer's block, but I have gotten stuck when writing about certain topics or times in my life. When that happens, I'll shift gears and write about something else, then come back to the first topic. Sometimes, conducting research on a topic or time period will generate ideas.

And then there's always journaling ... writing about being stuck or writing about my feelings of inadequacy (that what I write doesn't matter and who would want to read it anyway) acts as a kind of catharsis. Once those feelings are on the page, they're dealt with and I can move on.
Amber Lea Starfire I'm currently working on a new memoir about my years spent in a fundamentalist Christian sect in the late 70s and early 80s as a musician, wife, and mother.
