This book is about the direction that I see the world heading in, which is not very positive. It's inspired by current events and the issue of survival. We live in such turbulent times and it disappoints me how few authors attempt to engage with the big questions that face the world today. I wanted to write something that looks at the bigger picture and, if not answers, at least draws attention to some of these burning questions.

I get inspired to write by reading. When I read something I really admire it makes me want to try harder to reach that level. When I read something I hate (which is not rare as I tend to have very strong opinions about books), it also inspires me because I think, "If that load of tripe can be published then anything is possible!"

I'm working on a dystopian novel set in Australia at the moment. It's bleak but I'm also hoping that it will be exciting and I'm having fun writing it.

Write, write and then write some more! If you want to be a writer you just have to do it and realise that your first efforts are probably going to be garbage. If you want to be a good writer you have to have the drive to just keep doing it even when it seems like you're wasting your time and the odds are stacked against you (let's face it, they are).
I've always wanted to be a writer but for years I put off trying through lack of confidence, and now I can't help wondering how much better I'd be if I started in my twenties, so my advice is just take the plunge and start doing it!

I wish I had the luxury of writer's block! At the moment I'm living a 9-5 existence (or 7-7 if you add commuting time) which doesn't allow much time for anything else. When I do get a chance to write I have to make the most of it, meaning that writer's block just isn't an option.

There are so many great things about being a writer but if I had to narrow it down I'd say that the best thing is being able to express yourself and explore the the world in a way which is not possible through any other medium.
