Emmanuel Iduma A novel about three generations of Nigerian preachers. I'm interested in what happens to the body as it submits to religious practices or beliefs.
Emmanuel Iduma I am fascinated by brief encounters with strangers. I often leave those encounters with the fragment of a story. That's one. I think I equally navigate the world through questions, and these sometimes hard questions inspire me to begin a story or an essay. http://www.mantlethought.org/world-li...
Emmanuel Iduma I often recall what James Baldwin said when asked a similar question, and I paraphrase him: If you're going to be a writer, nothing I say will make you decide not to be one. If you're not going to be a writer, nothing I say will make you decide to be one. The effort is real, you need someone to tell you that. I hope I just did.
Emmanuel Iduma Being a writer allows me to understand the world through language, and stories. As I keep writing, I expect that I'll become a better human being.
