Surround yourself with other writers that can encourage you AND provide constructive feed back. Don't be afraid or reject the editing process. My book is much shorter than the original amount of content I had written. It was hard to chop phrases I loved, in leu of a better overall read, but the need for editing only proves that you have an over abundance of good ideas- not that your ideas are not good!

Hearing positive feedback that your words allowed a reader to experience feelings and emotions you desired to convey is amazing! Knowing your book is enjoyed by people of all ages and all walks of life is very gratifying!

Writers block is an issue of time- if thoughts or ideas are not flowing, time will correct that. I have trust that creative words and ideas are received when I am ready for them; but I cannot force inspiration, only nurture it. To nurture inspiration I turn to surrendered prayer, time outdoors, enjoying other authors works (good literature) and other creative art forms (music, theatre, art). My book Beach Song was inspired during an unhurried stay at the shore while my daughter was recovering from a major surgery (I was her care taker). During that time I was able to walk the beach, observe, write, create and envision a children's book. This was a surprise to me, as the book I was then working on (and had felt blocked) was an entirely different genre. You never know what will loosen writer's block or inspire words (a trip to the car wash, a walk in nature, delving into my family tree- have all inspired new ideas to write about). I think living life and experiencing it daily in the midst of stress or writers block has been the way for me to discover renewed flow.
