The Lies in the Lefse grew out of the stories I heard growing up - about gossip, power, and the politics that shape and re-shape communities. I’ve always been intrigued by how personal history and local ambition connect growing up in the prairies, and that fascination grew when I found myself following the community council minutes of a resort town because they were so unexpectedly dramatic. All of that is what ultimately compelled me to write another in the Cash Kristiansen series.

I think the best way to get inspired is to go out and try something new! It doesn't have to be something big but even trying a new recipe or restaurant, changing up your walk or a weekend getaway can really get things moving.

Growing up, I was always drawn to Narnia, and even as an adult, the world never really lost its magic! Beaver was always my favourite character, so I think I would go and have a great meal with the whole family.

As a new writer, it comes back to the world-building for me. While it takes significant time to develop locations and characters, it's great to flex those imagination muscles!

Often, the characters guide you as the author—not the opposite! Take the time to get to know them, visualize them, and understand their perspectives. I feel it makes the writing more relatable, and while you don't have to like your characters, it helps to be able to connect to them.

I'm currently working on two titles, which are still quite preliminary. The first is the second cozy in the Cash Kristiansen Mysteries, while the second stays true to my love of cozies but takes a sharp turn into fantasy!

There are two ways I like to deal with writer's block. The first is to take a sharp turn and write something very out of character for who I'm currently writing. That hard shift can shock me out of a hard slump pretty quickly! The second is to walk away for a bit. Go see your friends and family, or see a movie you've been dying to watch. Not everything has to be resolved during one session.
