Cath Staincliffe Thanks so much Lesley, that's very kind of you. I hope you enjoy Janine's other adventures. And my Sal Kilkenny novels are also set in Manchester (in the 90s) if you fancy trying one of them sometime. Happy reading!
Cath Staincliffe Hi Misty, it is on Kindle in the UK. I don't know what the situation is for overseas. Thanks for asking. Cath
Cath Staincliffe Yes, Lu-Ellen. Next week I'll have more time. If you want to email me the questions my address is on the contact page of my website. Cheers Cath
Cath Staincliffe Swiftly she bolted both doors and locked all the windows. She sat, trembling, closed her eyes, then heard the rasp and growl of it coming down the chimney.
Cath Staincliffe It would be Neverland from Peter Pan which fascinated me as a child. While I was there I'd learn to fly and have adventures with the pirates and the Lost Boys. I'd build dens and go on quests and recapture the worlds of my childhood.
Cath Staincliffe Hi, I've lots on my list, mainly from recommendations from other readers. The ones I'm reading now or about to are The Dry by Jane Paper, South by Frank Owen, His Bloody Project by Graeme Macrame Burnett, Dark Town by Thomas Mullen and The Story of the Lost Child by Elena Ferrante.
Cath Staincliffe Good question! The one that springs to mind is the mystery of my adoption. I had very little information and my birth-father was recorded as unknown on the forms. The mystery has since been solved but that search for who my parents were and what their story was would make a good story.
Cath Staincliffe Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I first came across them as a teenager and their star-crossed love, the passion of their doomed relationship, the injustices of the rigid social structure, the high drama of betrayal and revenge and the bleak, wild moors not far from where I lived had me captivated. No happy ever after for this pair...
Cath Staincliffe Hi Sandy, Thanks very much! My other books are published as ebooks for Kindle so unfortunately aren't available on Nook. Sorry!
Cath Staincliffe Thanks Jane - very pleased you liked it! The reason I took up crime fiction was a response to a sci-fi novella I'd written, from an editor at The Women's Press. She suggested I try contemporary crime as many of the themes and issues in the story fit that genre. As soon as I read that I saw she was right - I had written a whodunit in space with concerns about women's roles and working mothers and so on. I'm eternally grateful to her, as you can imagine.
Cath Staincliffe Hi Andrea, That's great, thanks for getting in touch. I can't see where on the blog to get in touch (sorry, I don't read German). Let me know how - or I can DM you on Twitter if you follow me @CathStaincliife
Cath Staincliffe That's a really difficult question and I'm not sure I can answer it. I think every reader brings something different to a book and takes something different away from it, that reading is an active process. So there can't really be a 'perfect' reader. And I think people should read whatever they enjoy. For me reading is one of life's greatest pleasures and I encourage people to read for pleasure. Sorry if I've not been able to answer as you hoped.
Cath Staincliffe Hi Jane, I think you have to have a good imagination to start with and a creative streak, a love of stories. After that I think it is possible to improve your writing and get better at it.
Cath Staincliffe Writing. Sounds obvious but the process of creating characters and a story is something that captivates me. It is hard work but it completely absorbs me and I love that.
Cath Staincliffe Get on with it! Read lots, write lots and as soon as you've finished a piece get on with the next one.
Cath Staincliffe I'm writing a novel set partly in China, about a graduate who goes missing there and her parents' search for her.
