Mindy McGinnis Hey there! Thanks so much for the question. No, I don't have any plans to follow Neely further. Just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best for her!
Mindy McGinnis Hey there!! TY!! That's awesome, you just made my day :)

No, Red Rock and Initial Insult aren't related, but they have the same cover artist, Corey Brickley. There is a sequel to Initial Insult titled The Last Laugh!
Mindy McGinnis I would love to, but I'm not in charge of where I go - the publisher decides where to send authors for touring. However, I do usually get to go to Andersons!

Mindy McGinnis Great question! All of my towns are fictional, and the vast majority of them are in Ohio. Yes, technically there could be crossover - there's no reason not to. But for the most part I think of my books, towns, and characters as existing in their own snow globe.
Mindy McGinnis First time I've had a question about roadkill! Love it! I don't remember doing a ton of research on this particular part of the book. I think I just did a quick Google about what towns / cities do with roadkill. I got a quick answer and went with that!
Mindy McGinnis Hey there! If you order online from any store, it "should" be filled with the new cover. It just depends on if the store still has the old cover in stock or not. Shoot me an email at Mindy@MindyMcGinnis.com and I can point you to my local indie to be sure they send you the right cover!
Mindy McGinnis Multiple books are awesome! It means you love me. :) Next time, bring them ALL!!! :)

I don't really get tired of any questions. It's my job to keep the answers interesting!

Mindy McGinnis Awesome! I'm so excited about it! I don't know a release date but I will find out!
Mindy McGinnis Hi here! I'm so sorry, I'm just now seeing this! What grade do you teach? My books Not A Drop to Drink and Be Not Far From Me are really good for reluctant readers, but the content would only be appropriate for 13+
Mindy McGinnis No, I never based my characters on real people. There's a high body count in my books and people tend to be offended if you murder them in fiction.
Mindy McGinnis I don't know, I don't really have in-depth character sketches like that, but if you want her to be a water sign, that makes sense. I myself am a Pisces!

Mindy McGinnis I'm an avid hiker and ended up in a very remote Pennsylvania forest. I had an opinion about whether or not we should take a spur of the trail, and the person I was with had a different perspective. I didn't think we could get the spur in before night fell. He definitely thought we could. We ended up losing light fast, in an unfamiliar, extremely remote area, with dying flashlight batteries and a trail about as wide as your hand. We made it out around 10 PM and found the car, but there were some dark moments, including the idea that we might be spending the night out there, with no gear for that. I never thought we might actually get LOST, but it was a possibility. He was apologetic about the bad decision, and I told him I was okay with it, because I got an idea for a book out of the ordeal.
Mindy McGinnis Getting organized isn't something I worry about too much... everyone's process is different. I might write down a few thoughts here and there, but for the most part I have everything inside my head. I write linearly, beginning to end, and aim for 1000 words a day when I'm drafting.

Feeling overwhelmed is perfectly normal. I feel overwhelmed by my own ideas often. Like - this is too big for me to tackle. But I manage!

The best way to start writing is to just sit down and do it!

Mindy McGinnis Good question! I don't like to put any type of diagnosis on anyone, since I'm not a licensed mental health worker. I think the anger that is present in both of these characters is rooted in a sense of helplessness. They both see things in the world that disgust them, yet these things continue to happen, unabated. For the father I think there is a general lack of happiness in his life. He's in a bad marriage. He actually detests his wife, and this makes it difficult to form bonds with his children, which creates guilt, which makes it even more difficult to have any sort of healthy home life. I think helplessness and a sense of failure is a huge root for the father's anger, and to some degree, Alex's as well. They are both angry for different reasons, but their anger has some of the same shared origins.
Mindy McGinnis Would LOVE to write a sequel to A Madness So Discreet. I've got an outline prepped and ready to go... will have to see if sales for the first one pick up a little bit before the project could be greenlit. So tell your friends! And your enemies! (Whichever you have more of).
