Will you return to adult fiction any time soon?
Scarlett Thomas Yes - I am actually writing it now at this very moment! I've recently finished a long short story/short novella called The Honeymoon, which I hope will be out next year, and I'm working on a longer thing - possibly even a full-length novel - called Oligarchy.

Immediately after finishing "Mr Y" (in two intensive days) I looked you up and found you here. Many of the ideas you set forth about the troposphere and the creator jive nicely with my studies in meditation (now my 10th year in residence at the International Meditation Institute in North India). You got me working on a few big questions: "What is thought made of?" and "When did consciousness arise?"
Scarlett Thomas So glad you enjoyed it. Sorry for the late answer - I'm reconnecting with Goodreads! The kids series I'm working on now has lots more about meditation in it - it's sort of how you do magic. Hope all's well.

Are you working on anything now (after Dragon's Green)? Any news or updates?
Scarlett Thomas As well as continuing with the Worldquake Sequence, I'm working on a memoir about playing tennis and a new literary novel about some girls at a boarding school.

What's your pattern in writing your novel?
Scarlett Thomas Start slow, finish fast, only write when I feel passionate about the sentences I'm putting on the page.

Are you still working on the world quake series?
Scarlett Thomas Yes, I am. The third book, Galloglass, will be published in April 2019, and the fourth, Cosmic Dancers, will follow in April 2020.

As a successful author and lecturer drawing inspiration from TV and film, as well as books, do you have any plans to extend your career into screenwriting? If so, tell all! If that's not on the cards, then which screenwriter, if any, would be your first choice to hand one of your books over to and why?
Scarlett Thomas Hi Nina. I have dabbled a little in screenwriting, but I just love novels too much. Every time I have an idea for a film or TV show I think it would make a better novel. And I love the freedom you have with novels. I love working in teams on some things, but when it comes to the creative process I am a bit of a lone wolf, so novel-writing suits me. I'd love Wes Anderson to make one of my books into a film. I'm a huge fan of his.
