Every day I hear little stories about people's lives, funny, sad, inspiring, etc. I can envision a novel in most of these stories and often jot notes to remind myself. At times, I hear of an incident, or a series of incidents, as I did prior to writing my novel Cheating Justice, that makes me feel as if I am obligated to write about it. In Cheating Justice, it was several incidents of men in Texas convicted of crimes they didn't commit. I wanted to tell why I think it occurs and did so in a work of fiction.

Having published Homicide in Black & White, the first of the Tanner & Thibodaux Crime Series, I am preparing to publish the second, Rich Man, Dead Man (September). I have completed the first draft of the third Tanner & Thibodaux books...as yet untitled. This book is about a murder that takes place on Galveston's Seawall.

I love using my imagination and there is no better feeling than that of seeing or hearing someone read my book and enjoyed the story.

Once I have an idea for a novel, I discipline myself to write at least a thousand words each morning, usually five days each week until I have a first draft. Sometimes, when I am not inspired, those words end up on the cutting room floor before the novel is published, but often I find gems in the writing I force myself to do.
