When I was around 11 years old, I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of rain. Lying on my side, I faced the window of our converted garage bedroom. Through the rain-blurred glass, I noticed a single light hovering close to the pane. It had the hue of a firefly’s glow but did not blink. It just hovered motionless near the glass. To an eleven-year-old, sleep feels like a coma-induced state, so despite the mystery just 10 feet from my face, I drifted back to sleep.
The next morning, I told my mother about the light I saw outside my window. She became excited and exclaimed, “Oh, my God, I went into the kitchen in the middle of the night and saw several lights just like you described among the trees in the front yard. I woke your father so he could see them too. I nearly woke you kids to come and look too.”
It’s the only experience I’ve had that came close to a paranormal encounter. To this day, I regret not investigating the light further (and I wish my mother had actually woken us up to see her lights as well). Mysterious lights encircle a family’s home on a rain-soaked night - what a perfect setting for a science fiction horror story!

As darkness oozed in around us, an unnatural silence blanketed the town, broken only by the soft electrical hum of alien vessels hovering above, their open cargo bays aglow with eerie blue light. Parents stood in the streets, helpless, tears etching crooked trails down their faces as the ships ascended into the night, carrying their children into the darkened sky.
