Joseph Amiel Easy question. I'm a story teller. When a story comes to me I have to tell it, and I love doing it. Some writers have to force themselves to sit down and get cracking, others find writing an obsession. I'm one of the latter.
Joseph Amiel I've never had it, so any advice I give would be a guess. I truly feel for writers who are blocked. But my uneducated advice would be just to write whatever: even lists or descriptions or anecdotes. My guess is that just the writing might lubricate the creativity that seems locked.
Joseph Amiel Doing something you love. For me it's not having the completed book in hand that I love although that's the goal. The pleasure is in the writing. It's not just for the money that writers start thinking about the next book as soon as they finish the last.
Joseph Amiel Write! One friend told me he had a novel he wanted to write but couldn't think of the right first line. I told him to start with the second line. He would probably rewrite the opening anyway. But just get going, even in the middle.
Joseph Amiel A YA novel that should be ready for publication in a month or so;.
Joseph Amiel I think I kind of answered that in my answer about putting aside my YA novel because I had a murder-mystery short story idea and needed a change of pace. The other two followed like they were horses in a race.
