Leon Steelgrave The first of my expanded Europa City Universe books - Crusade.
I've touched upon the Religious States of America many times in the main Europa City novels, but this will be the first in depth exploration.
The story centres around modern day Templars and their Crusade to retake Jerusalem from the Islamic Caliphate.
The challenge is to engage the reader's sympathy when, in effect, we're dealing with two opposing groups of religious fanatics.
Leon Steelgrave I doubt there's a one size fits all answer to this - the reasons a writer finds his or her self blocked will vary enormously. But speaking from personal recent experience - I had a 4 year break from writing - it was not so much a lack of ideas (for ideas are always around, even if you're not using/developing them) but losing the desire, and off the back of that, the discipline to sit down and write. I made the conscious decision to set a period of time aside every day to produce some writing, the what of it wasn't as important as the actual act of putting down words. Once I got used to writing again I found myself falling back into a natural pattern. The long and short of it being don't get hung up about producing great work or your best work, simply produce work. Afterwards you can revise or delete as required.

I was also in the mood to write more of a traditional crime thriller, and so they dovetailed together nicely.
Leon Steelgrave See your ideas through to the end. Even if they prove unsatisfactory, there's usually a lesson to be learned.

Learn to spot displacement activity - you'll be amazed at the things you can find to do other than actually writing.

Taking yourself too seriously is usually a bad idea, but always take your work seriously.
Leon Steelgrave No, but you can have a four word one:
