Freedom. Freedom to think for yourself, follow your interests, create something that readers will enjoy, do what you love. There are downsides, of course, not least the difficulty of making writing pay thesedays, but the best thing is the freedom.

Its an occupational hazard. I think its largely a confidence issue and you just have to get through it, restore your confidence, rediscover your author's voice, read more, get writing again... Its horrid - I've been there - but it's not the end of the world.
And, interestingly, stuff that I have written while "blocked" was, on later reflection, really not that bad... So, it really is all in your head.
