Walking along the beach in a storm, I was at a particularly low place in my life—struggling to raise two children on an author's/artist's income (or lack thereof). On the crest of the foam on a wave right in front of me, was a crisp, dry R100 note. (Local currency.) There was no-one else on the beach. Just me and this gift. An unsolved mystery, but one which gave me the courage to continue.

I enjoy variety, so I'd definitely want my own Wishing-Chair as per Enid Blighton's The Adventures of the Wishing Chair to go wherever I pleased. I would need the updated chair version though to choose my own destinations, (the original model of the chair goes where it pleases). This would then avoid Kirri-Kirri the witch and the giant etc. and allow me to travel Umbria, Fiji and remote places where conventional transport doesn't service.

Have just ordered Travel Light, Move Fast by Alexandra Fuller which I'm eager to begin. I love her writing. Then going to try Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. The Flame by Leonard Cohen to whose songs I would croon in my youth. Then from my bookclub have taken out Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig. To inspire myself, I've promised a reread of Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic, which is just the most wonderful book for those procrastination days (I'm having one today).

In 2007 I was at this hotel and there was this huge buffet and I was watching how different people negotiated the food choices. I saw first-hand how different people approached eating in such a varied way. I started combining this with suspected Enneagram types. This, together with my own personal search for weightloss sparked the idea for the book.
