I don't. If I have a "block" I just realize that it's not the time to move forward. As a self-publishing author I have no deadlines to answer to but my own. If an idea takes time to mature than pushing it could ruin it. I would rather set an idea aside until it's time (and that's when the voices in my head start screaming to be heard) than put words down on paper that aren't ready to be there.

Nothing and everything. It's a frustrating, time consuming, brain-racking, self-esteem questioning labor of love that can be the most freeing, relaxing, energizing, expressive and rewarding thing you ever do.

I don't give advice to aspiring writers. There really aren't "aspiring" writers. There are writers who are unsure of themselves, there are writers who are afraid, there are writers who don't know they are writers yet. But there isn't such a thing as "aspiring" writers. Either you write or you don't. You can look online and get more ideas, help and advice than you know what to do with or have time to read and get anything else done. If you want to write - write. Nothing to aspire to. Just do it. Or don't. Your choice.

I have a few things "started". My main focus is on an idea that I haven't quite flushed out yet. The start is good but there are so many different directions I could take it in. Until the path is made a bit more clear (or the characters let me in on the direction they are going) it sits waiting. Or it could just be writers block. My first novel took 2 months, the follow up to that 2 years. If this one takes a bit longer than that's how it will work out.

Ideas for my books come from one place only - my head. I get an idea and I have to go with it. Sometimes it's a subtle whispering and other times it's a loud, thumping, screaming idea that won't leave until I purge it on "paper".
