Talon of Scorpio is the third book in my Shadowstorm series, so a lot of the idea for it comes from the first two entries. But where the first book, (Blades of Winter), is a string of covert-action missions, and the second book, (Hammer of Angels), is an extended commando raid, this third book is much more of a straight-up war story.
In that regard, Talon of Scorpio is heavily influenced by two non-fiction books, "The Last Battle" by Cornelius Ryan, and "The Bitter Road to Freedom" by William I Hitchcock. Both authors explore the civilian experience in WW2's western front, which resonates for me because four of those civilians were my father, his parents, and his younger brother.
