That is a very good question and I hope that I can answer it the right way!
When I come up with my FMC, I like to think about many different aspects. Things like how they could have ended up in a certain situation, how their feelings and behaviors might be depending on the lifestyle they are currently living, what they might have or did not have. I also use some of my own life experiences with each one. For example with Charlotte from the first book, I also am a diabetic.
