Little Broken Things came out of the months that I spent becoming a mother to my newly adopted six-year-old daughter. We brought her home knowing that she had some pretty severe medical needs--but we were still unprepared for the emotional journey that would shape our story. I wanted to write about what it means to find home, and what makes a mother.

It doesn't take much. ;-) I am a passionate observer and lover of people. I find inspiration in my next door neighbors and strangers I meet on airplanes. I'm a firm believer in the beauty and resilience of the human spirit, and I love to write about people discovering the capacity within themselves for deep love, unexpected forgiveness, and startling growth. We are world changers and culture makers. People inspire me endlessly.

I'm working on my next book! It's set to publish in November of 2018 and it's tentatively called The World Bittersweet. But the title will likely change. My titles often go through many ideations! ;-)

WRITE! Do it. Don't give up. Don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't or that your dreams are foolish. Pursue writing with the tenacity of a lover. And if you want to get better? Read, read, read. Then: write, write, write.

Readers. I write for connection. For the chance to help someone see the world from a different perspective. I believe that books are uniquely powerful--they give readers the ability to put on another person's skin and walk a mile (or many miles) in their shoes. No other form of art is so intimate, so personal. I love the conversations that ensue when a reader really connects with one of my books.

Don't throw things at me, but I think writer's block is a myth. I can always write--it might not be good, but it least I got it down! I can (and do) edit later. For times when I'm feeling flat an uninspired, I search out things that move me. A great book, a well-written TV show, a fine film... I usually discover that plugging into beauty unlocks my ability to create.
