Alana Wulff I'd travel to Concord, Massachusetts, to where Little Women was set and do my best to become besties with the Alcott family.
Alana Wulff I wrote Girlish based on the fact that I NEEDED a book just like it when I was younger. There was so much I didn't know and didn't understand, and all I was ever given were books about 'changing bodies' and puberty... Eugh. I needed to learn about feminism, equality, gender bias and all of the historical and cultural issues that had led to me feeling like I wasn't as smart as the boys at school, that I had to apologise for my own presence, that I had to date every idiot that came my way because I should feel 'lucky' that anyone would want to date me at all... Now more than ever it feels particularly important to arm girls with the motivation and inspiration to change the world - because we can. And we will.
Alana Wulff There's nothing that inspires me more than reading good writing. If I've finished an amazing book that's had a lasting effect, all I want to do is replicate that feeling with something of my own. Well, that's the dream in any case.
Alana Wulff I have an idea for a YA fiction novel that I've been trying to find the time to work on. I'm super excited and am starting to delve into research mode. I love this part the most!
Alana Wulff Just start writing! There's no 'right time' to become a writer - you've got what it takes right now. Read as much as you can and just write, write, write. There's nothing like getting your thoughts onto paper and coming back to it with fresh eyes to keep writing, editing and building on your ideas.
Alana Wulff The best thing about being a writer is hearing from the amazing readers who have taken time out of their day to read my work - whether that's an article I've written or a book that I've poured my heart and soul into. I love getting reader feedback and it's been especially lovely to hear the heartwarming responses so many young girls have had to Girlish.
Alana Wulff The best cure for a case of writer's block in my opinion is a long walk or even something as simple as a shower! I always find it super helpful when I'm away from the laptop and my mind can just wander.
