Alex C. Telander It is worth it as this is still the traditional way of an author getting their "foot in the publishing door." It does take a lot of time and diligence and in my experience, I often don't get responses back for rejections, so I just have wait a number of months, assume the story has been rejected and then submit it to another publication. There are also a number of online zines and sites that publish stories too which can have a lot quicker turn around. For the full list I recommend checking out Writer's Market. It's a little pricey though your local library might have it in stock to look at.
Alex C. Telander Starting a new project, whether it's a short story or a novel or whatever, that creative feeling of just starting from scratch and watching the story grow and not really having much of an idea of what's going to happen, but just enjoying the ride.
Alex C. Telander You've got to read a lot, every day if you can. And write a lot too. Doing these two things as much as possible will make you a better writer, guaranteed.
Alex C. Telander I hope to start writing a horror novel titled "Olague" in 2015 in the style of Stephen King's "It." I'm also working on a podcast series with a friend.
Alex C. Telander But everything around me. You never know what's going to do it, so it's important to pay attention to just about everything.
Alex C. Telander My most recent book is one I hope to start writing in 2015. I got the first idea for it in the fall of 2013 shortly after my son was born and I started doing a daily morning jog to get me out of the house for a big, and all the adrenaline of running really fired my creative juices and this idea for a book coalesced and become more complex each day I jogged.
Alex C. Telander I've actually never suffered from writer's block. But when I'm having any issues with writing, it's important just to power through it. Also reading authors who inspired me to become a writer; that always jump-starts me.
