Tareh is a planet connected to Earth via a wormhole capable of transporting almost anything, from any point in time, from one world to the other. Thus Tareh has ended up with an assortment of species from many different epochs in Earth's history. Each species can adapt and evolve from the time they arrive on Tareh, to when my story begins. I would go and do my best to ensure that all the species there survive, and take DNA samples so that they could be cloned should they once again go extinct. This is essentially the role Ulfberht wants to play.

I had invented the world Tareh in another book that I never finished. Then, in 2013, I visited the Lascaux Caves in France. These caves contain amazing drawings done by primitive humans perhaps 20,000 years ago. The artists would have needed help from others, such as someone to bring supplies and food. It took organization and complex communication to complete the murals, which were very detailed, and showed amazing artistry. I had always assumed that 'cavemen' were simply living subsistence lifestyles: hunting, eating, sleeping. But these artists were clearly more advanced than that. I got to thinking that I could put some early humans in my world and write a good story around it. I hope I have managed to do that.

Just do it. Get started with whatever ideas you have, and let it evolve and change as you go. Writing requires the least investment of any hobby or profession. You don't need a computer, or even a pen, to get going. Just start daydreaming and see where it takes you. (although it is very useful to have some way of recording a good idea) My other piece of advice would be to write about what interests you. If you like it, that will keep you going.

There is very little difference between writing and daydreaming. Whenever I am stuck, or would like to change something I have done, but don't have a good idea, I just leave it. Then, during the rest of my life, such as when I am picking my son up from school, or sitting on my porch, I start daydreaming possibilities. Over time, as your mind subconsciously and consciously ticks over new ideas to solve the problem, it is amazing what you can come up with. I also think life experience helps. I am a little older, so there is a lot to draw on.
