My most recent book, Birth of the Vampire: The Journal of Kersey Avonwood is a prequel to my Covenant Trilogy. When I began worldbuilding for those books, I gave an extensive background to the original vampires in my world. This made my new book rather formulaic, but it worked. I knew where Kersey started, where she ended, and a few stops along the way. It was nice to fill in the gaps that even I didn't know about.

I just released a book, so I'm currently taking a break. However, I've wanted to work on worldbuilding of a new fantasy world. It always gave me joy to worldbuild, and now, many years later, I feel a little more wise to do an even better one than my world of Mystyria.

My advice is to write every day. We get so busy in our lives and we tend to put writing on the back-burner. Even if it's a page of notes, a page of your book, a paragraph, a line, put it down on paper. Always move your writing forward. Sometimes this is hard when you aren't 'in the zone' but some of my best work came during a time when I didn't want to write at all.

I usually alternate between a large project and a smaller. I tend to only get writer's block when working on a novel, so when this happens, I put it aside and write a short story. Many times this will jog me into finishing the big stuff.
