Predominantly reading! I have always loved reading. I also wrote a lot of poetry when I was younger. Then, I found writing my 10k word dissertation during university probably the most rewarding piece of writing I had done in my life up till that point, not least because of the research involved. I found I really LOVED the research! During my late 20s I decided to try writing a full length novel. I was reading a lot of Bernard Cornwell at the time and originally planned to write a straight-forward adult historical novel, inspired by his writing, and influenced by the fact I knew research would be involved. However, when I started researching, I came across the term “wouivre” in a little book about Italian heraldry that intrigued me and when I looked further into it, I realised that I needed to incorporate that into my book. And thus the time travel/ YA element was born
