I'd go back to the 1920s, find the Lost Generation of authors in Paris and join them, grab my typewriter and return to the US before the market crashed, dance in the Roosevelt ball room in New York and toast champagne during Prohibition, then skedaddle to DC with a camera and notebook to work under the New Deal programs around the country to get an eyeful and earful of how folks were holding up during the hard times. I'd don a male flight suit and get myself in pilot training in time for war, so I could land WASP instructor duty and spy on the Greatest Generation who could appear in a future novel.
