I hope the children and adults that read this are able to understand that true courage and strength comes from God even in the midst of something scary. I want them to be inspired by Kai Aka and his journey.

That would be Philippians 4:13. It reminds me that I can do all things through God and even when I have writer's block or feel discouraged that things aren't working out the way I'd like, this verse encourages me to keep going.

Right now, I am working on the sequel to Through the Flames, Above the Ashes. It is a book about Kai Aka's recovery from the Maui wildfire. I am entering it into the Kindle Storyteller Contest by August 31st after I release it.

My favorite thing to write is children and young adult fiction. I enjoy writing more in the genre of realistic fiction but sometimes I have written things that include time travel.

What inspired me to write this book was the many wildfires that were going on throughout America. I felt real compassion for those who were going through something like that. More specifically, I wanted to look at these disasters through the eyes of a twelve-year-old. I also wanted to add the theme of finding courage in God to face these things.
