I enjoyed this book so much. I would read it over again. Can not wait to see what you publish next! Any hints?
Rachel Hochhauser Thank you so very much, Sasha. Happy to report that book two is complete. While it's not a fairytale retelling, it is historical fiction and anyone who enjoyed Lady Tremaine will find much to appreciate—and a lot of thematic similarities. I'll be able to share more very soon!

This was at LEAST top 3 for me this year, but it has made a case for my favorite read of 2026 so far. The pacing, story, twists... it was almost perfect. Thank you so much for writing for us. Are there any other publications you have written for that are available to read?
Rachel Hochhauser Well, thank you very much!!! I am so pleased to hear the book resonated. I am having a delightful time working on my second book, which will likely be published in early 2028 (a while from now, I know.) Rest assured that readers of Lady Tremaine will find a lot to appreciate in book 2.

I really loved this novel, are you planning to retell any other stories?
Rachel Hochhauser Thank you so very much! The second book I'm working on is a retelling of sorts! Though not in the same way or vein as Lady Tremaine.

Dear Ms. Hochhauser, I am writing to tell you how much I loved, LOVED your book!!! It was unputdownable! One of my favorite things to do is watch falconers at the Renaissance Faire. Reading your book was like stepping into that world, and so much more. Your knowledge seems superb, how did you learn so much about the birds? I cried till my eyes were red (Lucy!) and I felt everything Ethel felt. Thank you!
Rachel Hochhauser Thank you so much, Christine!! Dreaming Lucy to life was one of my favorite parts of writing the book. I am not a falconer, so I had quite a bit to learn. My knowledge—which remains very incomplete—was informed by a falconry workshop, watching Youtube videos on falconry, and reading old falconry manuals. I also learned so very much from Helen Macdonald's powerful and beautifully written book H is for Hawk. Close readers will find parallels!

Will you be making a Lady Tremaine themed puzzle? If so, I would first to buy it :)
Rachel Hochhauser Hi Denise—YES! And it's already here. It's called Once Upon a Time, and is inspired by fairytales and Dutch golden age paintings, like the one on the cover of the book. There are also some fun nods to details from the novel. https://pieceworkpuzzles.com/products...
