As terrible as this is, I don't subscribe to the theory of writer's block. Either the story is read or its not. Let it come in its own time.

I can control the environment and (to a much lesser extent) the people within it. I can feel safe in that world while I'm writing it - it can be dark or not, but I'm still safe.

Just write! Anything. You have to start somewhere. Sometimes you have a lot of false starts before a story grows legs. Take a chance.
