Hi, Phillip Margaret: Well I guess the easiest answer is I don't. I write romances in which the heroine is spanked and adored by her lover. The stories aren't about spanking, but they take place within the story as part of the couple's dynamic. There has to be a reason that makes sense within their relationship, and I usually give a hint or two along the way that informs the reader that HE is inclined that way and SHE is curious, at the very least. If you are or know a woman who gets the little butterflies in her tummy when threatened with a spanking from her lover, you know there is a 'type' and that is the type I write about and for. The scenes have to come naturally, and they don't, always. So I find another way.
Readers of this genre like to see detail. readers want to 'feel' what she is feeling, and feel what he feels, too. In other words the reader has to agree or it doesn't work. so I try to put myself there, in both heads, and then write the scene accordingly. I try to create conflict about the subject, which is why all my heroines are strong, usually financially independent, and successful. They are conflicted about this 'need' they have to be dominated in this way and the trust has to be very strong between both parties.
I'd be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Real life, TV, Movies, current events...there are interesting stories out there and they're easy to find. Love happens no matter what else is going on in the world, and that is the challenge to me. How can I get these two together and what are they, and we (the readers) getting out of it? That's where the gold is.

I've fallen in love with politics, at perhaps the most tumultuous time in a generation. I guess it was a year or so ago, I was watching old film of that horrible day JFK was assassinated, and I watched the first lady try to escape over the back of the car with her husband's brains staining her dress. I wondered about her: who took care of her while others looked after the president? Who made sure she wasn't hit? Who missed noticing that she appeared in public in a blood stained dress? When I started First a Lady, I wanted to weave a romance out of a horrific event--the president's assassination--even if the players refused to see it coming. I wanted to add some political intrigue into that love story, and most of all I wanted to see these two together against the backdrop of a country in major transition.
