My characters inspire me to write. I'm not sure if they belong to me or if it's the other way around. I also love the excitement of a blank page.

I have a few on the go at the moment. A zombie/football/horticulturist thing (I know, sounds crazy and it is), a fairy fantasy, a crime thriller and a few other bits and pieces waiting for me to tinker with them. I'm also open to requests (within reason!)

We're all writers, so don't worry about calling yourself 'aspiring' or anything like that. If you write and it means something and you feel something when you do it, then you're a writer. If a reader tells you your stories meant something to them, you're doing something right. Write lots. Make mistakes, get insecure and bang your head against a hard surface a few times. I've never met a writer who doesn't at some point think they're not good enough or are lacking in some way. You're you. Write what you write, keep doing it and get better. If someone gives you advice and it feels helpful, use it. Then write some more. Just keep writing and get better and tell the stories that are important to you. If you don't write your stories, nobody else will.

I was poised, fingers hovering over the keyboard, convinced that I was going to write a crime novel. I As soon as I began, everything I typed was about demons. From that moment on, I figured I was writing about demons. No use fighting it.

That's a good question! I like coastal towns/villages, especially those along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Lorne, Torquay, Anglesea, Airey's Inlet and Sugarloaf Creek. A lot of these places are great surf spots!

Sounds awesome! I've got a book coming out in 2017 that's set in Lorne so you might find some of the locations familiar :)

Strangely enough, it's mundane things like conversations, interactions. I think people inspire me more than anything. I'm always revising my opinion about what it means to be human. I'm still no closer to the answer though!

I love creating characters that take on a life of their own. A lot of the time they surprise me. Sometimes they tell me what to write, sometimes I listen. I feel terrible when they get hurt, and I wish I could warn them, but I guess that's all part of the process. I love creating new environments and finding different ways to look at things. I'm very protective of my characters and I find myself falling in love with them. Well, most of them.
