Beth Fitzgerald Once upon a time there was a long skinny black snake slithering silently across my kitchen floor, rhythmically flickering its forked tongue and ominously hissing, all the while locking his hypnotic eyes on me. The end.
Beth Fitzgerald I write in the self-help space, so I truly believe that what I write helps people. Knowing that I do that on a daily basis, makes me proud to be a writer. In addition, having just published my first book, the other "best thing" about being a writer is the pride I have in bringing this book to fruition. I didn't have the luxury of squirreling myself away somewhere in a cabin in the mountains! No, I am the mother of 4 children, 2 big dogs and 1 husband. I wrote this book between my life as a mom, wife, laundress, cook, chauffeur, cheerleader, tutor, dog walker, nurse, auto mechanic and handyman! It was difficult, but now I was forever more proudly be an author.
Beth Fitzgerald Although I am sure someone with more experience than me would give great advice, I just came through this for the first time, so perhaps my advice is more relatable. First, do not for one second think you can't be a writer! Write everyday and keep writing! Sit deadlines and do your best to meet them. If you get discouraged - which is bound to happen - find someone you know will lift you up. Email me!! But whatever you do, do not QUIT!
Beth Fitzgerald The Wake Up Call is just getting published now, so mostly what I am working on is related to promoting the book. I do still write my daily blog, which is a fun way for me to continue to write every day. Soon, I will go back to the book I had started, The 50 Acts of Kindness, but for now I am enjoy the lack of deadlines!
Beth Fitzgerald I write a daily blog so the inspiration for the daily entries come from all the things that happen in my life. I don't write them in advance, so it's often the case that the story I am writing about the reader has experienced too, like a holiday or a movie. I write about everyday stuff that people can relate to - my husband calls me the Jerry Seinfeld of motivation! It's water cooler stuff, if there were water coolers to stop and chat at anymore!
Beth Fitzgerald This is an interesting story. I had almost finished my first book which was about 50 acts of kindness that I had completed purposefully for my 50th birthday. My daughter had just arrived home from college and I was sharing this good news with her she offered a suggestion. "Mom," she said, "you should really write a book that compiles all the great daily motivation you have shared in your blog over the years. That would really be a great resource for daily inspiration." I agreed and there began my amazing 3-year journey of creating The Wake Up Call.
