L.T. OKTONAWA Every morning, I smile at my reflection in the polished elevator doors. This morning, for the first time, it didn't smile black.
L.T. OKTONAWA I wouldn't go to a fantasy world. I'd choose a dim café in Berlin from a John le Carré novel. I wouldn't be the hero or the spy. I would just sit in the corner, order a black coffee, and watch from behind a newspaper, trying to understand the mechanics of lies and betrayal from people who risk everything for a secret.
L.T. OKTONAWA My list is always a mix of classic and contemporary. Right now, it’s "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" by John le Carré to relearn the cold atmosphere of espionage. Then there's "The Likeness" by Tana French, as I’m fascinated by her complex character work. And for non-fiction, I’m re-reading "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker; an essential book on intuition and survival.
L.T. OKTONAWA The greatest mystery in life isn't about what happened, but why we choose to remember it the way we do. Our memory is the most unreliable narrator. I could write an entire book about a single shared memory told by two different people, and they would both be completely different horror stories.
