Douglas Karlson I can't remember exactly, I think it was the main character, Kim Conrad, an FBI agent, and I paired her with a wounded vet.
Douglas Karlson It begins with a germ of an idea. Then I develop it. I am also inspired by other writers who work their asses off, and their books, and by great shows on TV, like Happy Valley or Breaking Bad.

Douglas Karlson The satisfaction in writing something that someone else enjoys reading. Writing something really good. Being able to produce something by yourself.
Douglas Karlson First, it's important not to wait to be inspired. Just sit down and put in the hour or two hours you plan to.

Second, I find it helps if I work out the plot in advance, then follow the outline.

Third, inhabit the character you are writing about.
