I would still consider myself an aspiring writer. But, just sit down and make stuff up. Think of the worst situation one of your closest friends could possibly be in, and write about that.

Read other things. I have books of essays and other commentary from some authors I really like. Sometimes it takes a page of their stuff and I am good to go back to mine. Sometimes it takes a few days.

Being able to create anything you want. You don't have the same control over everything in life as you do when you write. Everything is your to dictate and mold. In life, sometimes you just get stuck dealing within everyone else's bad decisions. In writing, you get to make your own.

The news. I read a lot of news articles, particularly local news. The most bizarre stuff happens at the local level and rarely makes headlines. Deep inside the websites of local news channels there are some stories of a few deranged individuals.
