V. Sanjay Kumar I am trying to catch up with contemporary short-form fiction. There are two books I could access out here in India without breaking the bank.

1. New American Stories: Ben Marcus

2. The Anchor Book of New American Short Stories

Look forward to suggestions especially single-author collections.
V. Sanjay Kumar My fictional worlds are those that musicians and poets conjure up. I would like to, for instance, accompany Pink Floyd to the Dark Side of the Moon. Or go with Jethro Tull to the terrain where their Heavy Horses pound the dust. Better still, sit with Harivansh Rai Bachchan in his favourite Madhushala or travel with Arun Kolatkar in a train or a bus to his rocky Jejuri.
V. Sanjay Kumar There is a world I get to inhabit every time I am working on a book. It takes shape slowly. Characters become people that I meet on the page every day for as long as it takes. Layers form, often complicating the journey. The process of editing is hard work but it is what gives the narrative shape.

The best thing for me is this long arduous process. In fact when I am done with a manuscript I feel a little disappointed.
V. Sanjay Kumar There are disciplined writers and for them a spell of inactivity maybe a cause for concern. I have no daily, monthly or yearly targets, and no set routine. There are weeks when I do not write, when I am busy pursuing other passions. I don't think of it as a problem that needs a label.
