Eric Shoars My inspiration to write comes with the saying "art imitates life". All writing has a thread of truth in it. Much of what I have writtien comes from either things from my life or those around me. My fiction writing is positioned upon my being a modern day Walter Mitty so that people are able to vicariously live the adventures through my various character incarnations.
Eric Shoars I got the idea for my latest book No Way Back Today from my real life. I realized as I was nearing 50 that it had been 40 years since a childhood dream and that the dream would never be realized. It was then I got the idea to write that story to complete the journey in literary form.
Eric Shoars In dealing with writer's block, I will set aside writing briefly. As with most things, the harder I try, the harder things get. The best thing for me to overcome writer's block is to go running. I'll let thoughts flow as I run because I have time to ponder without access to anything to write with. I find as I let thoughts flow, a piece of dialogue or action or next step for a character will find its way in. Then I'll write that note to myself when I return home and re-start my writing with that thread.
