Anthony, thanks for the question, which I confess has left me a bit puzzled, While I put maps in some of my books, I cannot recall putting any in Peninsula and I use the same file for both the e-book and the printed one. I have just had a rummage amongst various source books quoted in the historical notes and a few others on the peninsular conflict, but could not find any detailed maps of Torres Vedras forts in any of them. It is not often I direct people to Wikipedia, but the following page is perhaps a good source as it has a map showing the two lines and details on the preservation work and which sites are good to visit today. Hopefully, if you visit some of the sites, they will have more information and maps as a lot has been spent restoring some of the defences. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series and as I sit here looking out on freezing fog, I have to say that I envy you in Portugal!

Researching forgotten heroes and events and bringing them back to life in my books. While my books have a fictional central character most of the people he meets and events he sees really happened. I think that there has never been a better time to write about the Napoleonic era as you benefit from two advances in technology. In the early 1800s the industrial revolution was in full swing and that meant more books being printed. Instead of just hearing about the commanding generals, junior officers and even common soldiers published their first-hand accounts of astonishing events.
Since then most of those books became lost or out of print, but now with the internet age you can find rare copies and long-forgotten archive material. Much is available to view online and print on demand publishing has put many of these memoirs back in book form. Now is the perfect time to uncover a hero or a villain from that era!
