You generally need an agent to get you in front of a Big 5 editor, unless you meet the editor at an event, but knowing which path to take as an author is a personal choice. Some authors journey on a different path with each new book they write. What's better? That's subjective.

Most of the time the ideas just hit me. Asleep, my current wip, came to me in the early hours of the morning while I couldn't fall back to sleep. Go figure. Charming came to me while I was helping someone else with a plot line. That went over well. Hold up with your plot problem while I write down this new, awesome, shiny idea! Wilde's Fire and Shattered Secrets came to me while I was reading, even though they had nothing to do with the story.

Reading made me want to write. Every time I've read a book in my life, even books I haven't liked, my imagination has lit up. In third grade, it was Babysitter Club novels. When I was a little older, Stephen King. Now, I can't stop.

I'm currently outlining a super seekrit book that may or may not destroy a town full of really awful people. Muahaha.

Stop aspiring and just write. Write the worst words in the world. Write stupid stories no one will ever read. Then write more, plot more, dream and dare to be more. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat!
