LOL thanks! Noun and verb agreement, or lack thereof, is one of my main pet peeves as a reader and writer.

The five short stories came from different places.
The zombie one is a sequel, so no mystery there.
The ghost one is drawn from real life and what I picture could happen if the ghost former owner of our house showed up.
Eaten Alive draws from two things - I had scabies as a girl, and menopause makes me itchy.
A Touch of Knowledge draws on the superpower I always wanted, but dwells on what could go wrong.
And The Plant Killer stems from a fear I've had of creeping plants and moss since seeing a particularly terrifying episode or two of the Twilight Zone as a kid.

Plow through your first draft - don't look back. Take notes of things to add if you think of them, but get to The End. The first draft doesn't have to be perfect, or even pretty.

I do something else, preferably fun, to recharge, letting my brain think about things in the background.

I'm really looking forward to American Demon by Kim Harrison, Southern Bred and Dead by Angie Fox, Peace Talks by Jim Butcher, and A Stitch in Time by Kelley Armstrong. Other than those, I'll be tackling my huge Kindle TBR list!
