John Whitman Like most other authors, I procrastinate! I go away and do other things. But if that doesn't work, I sit down and write something, even if I know I'm going to delete it later. Just write something as an exercise. You never know what might come out of that.

1. Start writing things down. No one else has to see your first draft.
2. Read, edit, and revise.
3. Stop trying to write the world's greatest novel. That's too much pressure. Write a good story, and edit it to make it better.
John Whitman My recent publication, Disunion, is a series. Book One: The Mantiz Gambit, just came out. I'm in the middle of Book Two: The Ursine Agenda, right now. I should be done in a couple of months!
John Whitman For me, writing is something I do as a respite from other activities. I write a lot, but I find that I need to go away from some other event (work, hobby, etc.) and then take refuge in writing.
John Whitman I started with the idea of retelling the U.S. Civil War, but set in space. It took off from there.
